Jonas Coffee

jonas

Jonas coffee has been going for 3 and half years, selling their first bag of coffee in October 2009.

David, the brain behind Jonas coffee came to China in 1996 to teach English, the challenge of finding good coffee in Shanghai made David think about roasting it himself. The time came to start the coffee roasting business when David met his partner who had just left his job and was looking to start something new.

So David, what is your favourite coffee?

Choosing a favourite coffee is hard, as they all vary, from season to season and also because the coffee is craft roasted there are always slight variations between roasts.
But if I had to choose a favourite right now it would be the Espresso Classico.

What do you enjoy most about the markets?
There is a great camaraderie with other vendors and regular customers. If you go to the markets regularly you begin to establish these relationships and it makes it a lot of fun.

What is your favourite place in Shanghai/thing to do in Shanghai?
Riverboat ride on the Huangpu at night. I think it’s the most dramatic and relaxing way to see the Bund in all its glory. I always try to bring guests there when they come to visit.
